retooling a culture
Baboon culture, that is. Yesterday's New York Times featured a fascinating article about the results of a study of how the culture of a particular baboon troop changed, and how the new culture has been sustained for two decades, despite changes in group membership. I've not yet read the research cited in the Times' article, but I'm looking forward to it. If baboons can make this sort of change (with the attendant benefits of lower stress levels), isn't is possible that humans can, too? Nice to think so, even though the daily news might suggest otherwise...
